Analyst Update: Offer pricing, New Technology Product, Operational Update, and Financial Results
U.S. stocks tumbled on Friday as disappointing financial results of big companies weighed on investor sentiment. The Dow Jones Industrial Average lost 1.54% or 279.67 points to close at 17,826.10, its worst drop since March 25; the Nasdaq fell 1.52%, or 75.98 points, to 4,931.81, and the S&P 500 closed the session at 2,081.16, down 1.1%, or 23.81 points. Among heavy weights, American Express plunged 4.4% on Friday, reflecting weaker than expected quarterly earnings. European stocks too closed lower on Friday as fear of Greek default intensifies. Notably, Germany's DAX Index dropped 2.6%, followed by France's CAC (down 1.6%), and Britain's FTSE 100 (down 0.9%). Meanwhile, Asian markets witnessed mixed trading on Friday, with China's Shanghai Composite Index reaching its highest level since March 2008, and the Nikkei closing at a lower level.
On March 4, 2015, Oasis Petroleum Inc. had announced the pricing of its upsized public offering of common stock. It had priced the upsized underwritten public offering of 32,000,000 shares of common equity for total gross proceeds of approximately $409.6 million.
On April 10, 2015, Schlumberger announced that the Petrel* E&P software platform will support BP's new digital technology roll out. The first deployment of the two-year global implementation has been successfully completed for staff at the Company's business unit in Aberdeen, Scotland.
On March 24, 2015, Nabors Industries Ltd. announced that it had completed the combination of Nabors with C&J Energy Services. The resulting combined company, which has been renamed C&J Energy Services Ltd. ("New C&J"), is one of the largest completion and production services providers in North America.
On March 24, 015, Chile's Northern Atacama region experienced an extreme weather event, with heavy rains causing flooding which led to damage of infrastructure. Mining operations throughout the region were affected, including Kinross Gold's, Maricunga mine, where mining and crushing operations, and the SART plant, remain temporarily suspended.
On March 24, 2015, Turquoise Hill Resources announced its financial results for the year ended December 31, 2014. The Company recorded a net income of $31.8 million or $0.02 per share for the year. The increase follows the first full year of operations at Oyu Tolgoi, delivering gross margin of $372.1 million, or 22.6% of revenue, combined with reduction in general and administrative expenditure.
