HOUSTON, Jan. 27, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Houston Methodist Willowbrook Hospital opened a new 36-bed patient care unit located on the sixth floor in the hospital's North Pavilion.
"This is an exciting time of growth and clinical expansion for Houston Methodist Willowbrook Hospital. We are now on a trajectory to being a neuroscience center specializing in the treatment of patients suffering from hemorrhagic and ischemic seizures, strokes and other neurological issues," said Keith Barber, chief executive officer, Houston Methodist Willowbrook Hospital & senior vice president, Houston Methodist. "In the 15 year period since we opened our doors in 2001, Houston Methodist Willowbrook has grown from 64 beds to 312 beds. We are now a regional referral center serving the community's higher acuity health care needs in the Greater Northwest Houston area," continued Barber.
The neurological unit features a universal bed architecture with open nursing stations, allowing patient rooms to be visible at all times. The innovative architectural design allows flexibility in how patient beds are designated, based on the need for more medical-surgical or critical care beds in the hospital. The rooms have been constructed and equipped to be easily converted based on community need. Other key features include advanced monitoring capabilities, room service on demand, bright lighting to enhance the environment and more spacious patient rooms.
"Stroke patients and patients with other neurological issues are able to receive advanced comprehensive care, crafted specifically to meet their health care needs, in one central patient care space," said Barbara Quandt, RN, MSN, NE-BC, director, Medical Surgical Nursing & Stroke Program Coordinator, Houston Methodist Willowbrook Hospital.
Further Houston Methodist Willowbrook campus expansion is underway in 2016 based on the needs of the community, including the construction of a third Cath Lab room, the addition of a new four-bed Sleep Center, two additional emergency rooms, the construction of two new operating rooms, expanding the Infusion Center and Wound Care Center and constructing a parking garage on the campus.
