HOUSTON, Dec. 1, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Federal Home Loan Bank of Dallas (FHLB Dallas), Amegy Bank, U.S. Representative Sheila Jackson Lee (D-18), and Houston Mayor Annise Parker will join Temenos Community Development Corporation (Temenos CDC) for the grand opening of the Temenos Place Apartments II. The event will take place at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, December 3, 2015, at 2200 Jefferson Street in Houston, Texas. The media is encouraged to attend.
Temenos Apartments, an 80-unit apartment complex for the homeless and extremely low-income population of Houston, is a joint venture spearheaded by the Temenos Community Development Corporation (TCDC) and funded in part by a $415,995 Affordable Housing Program (AHP) grant from FHLB Dallas and Amegy Bank. Other funding came from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, the Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs, and the Harris County Community Services Department.
"This new facility, which is strategically positioned downtown, is further proof of our commitment to ending chronic homelessness in Houston," said Mayor Annise Parker. "Our nationally-recognized response system has housed more than 3,650 homeless veterans over the last three years. Temenos Place Apartments II will be a part of Houston's multi-faceted, community-driven initiative to prevent and reduce homelessness."
AHP grants are available annually through FHLB Dallas member institutions to assist in the development of affordable owner-occupied and rental housing for very low- to moderate-income households located across FHLB Dallas' five-state District of Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, New Mexico, and Texas. In 2015, FHLB Dallas awarded $7.4 million in AHP grants to 32 projects that will result in 965 new or renovated housing units.
