Gibson filed the official ballot application paperwork in Austin necessary for entry in the Democratic primary.
"I became a candidate today for the U.S. Senate because Texans want common-sense government and a level playing field for ordinary, hard-working citizens – in the workplace, in the community and at the courthouse," Gibson said.
He added, "The balance of power in this country has shifted away from most of our citizens to a few powerful special interests. I hope to help reverse that trend. We can and must do better for the people of Texas."
The founder of The Gibson Law Firm in Houston, Gibson represents victims of fraud, defective drugs and other products, consumer scams, and insurance company abuse.
Born in New Braunfels, Gibson is a graduate of Stephen F. Austin State University (B.A., magna cum laude) and the University of Houston Law Center (J.D.). He and his family are longtime residents of Sugar Land, outside of Houston.
Gibson said his law practice and political aspirations are inspired by his grandfather, the late O.D. Kenemore, a South Texas advocate for workers rights and a member of the Texas Labor Hall of Fame.
Gibson is president of the Houston Trial Lawyers Association and a member of the American Association for Justice and the Christian Trial Lawyers Association. He has been recognized among H Texas Magazine's "Top Lawyers for the People" and "Houston's Top Lawyers." He served as an adjunct professor at the University of Houston Law Center.
