Housefax Partners With Home Inspectors
Property Histories Complement Traditional Reports
HAYMARKET, Va., Oct. 17, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Housefax, a national data aggregation service providing property history reports for homebuyers and sellers, has partnered with the National Association of Home Inspectors (NAHI).
"Many licensed home inspectors are already using Housefax Reports," said NAHI Executive Director Claude McGavic. "Home buyers are more cautious than ever, and want to make sure nothing is overlooked. Housefax Property History Reports complement our members' expertise, and bring an important new dimension to the traditional inspection."
Housefax, which sells individual reports for $59 to homebuyers, sellers and now to professional real estate inspectors through its Enterprise Portal, has added an "Inspection Alert" feature that notifies users of possible "red flags" before purchasing a full report. In addition to structural and utility warnings, the report recommends insurance products to mitigate risk in response to disasters that have left many homeowners underinsured.
"Historical catastrophe and building permit data can give buyers a clearer picture of the property itself, including key indicators such as plumbing, roof and siding life expectancy," said Michael Green, a Kentucky home inspector whose firm, 1-800-INSPECT, conducts more than 500 inspections annually. "A Housefax Report showed there had been a fire in a home, which gave me the focus to look for water and fire damage behind the scenes that could have been missed. Also, inspectors are responsible for assessing a home's present condition, and if we see something faulty or hazardous, we now have a tool to correlate what may have caused a problem in the past."
The average home inspection costs about $500 for a current condition assessment. Including a homes' background adds value to home inspectors' reports, and saves them time from researching multiple sources to consolidate past information.
"With the launch of our Inspection Alert feature, we're helping home inspectors provide clients with vital, enhanced information, and at the same time addressing the growing consumer demand for transparency," said Housefax President Michael Abdy.
