PORTLAND, Ore., April 12, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Impact investing—easily the hottest topic today in the world of sustainable, responsible, impact (SRI) investing—will be the focus of an all-day training session on April 20, 2016 for Oregon and Washington area investors and investment professionals. Produced by First Affirmative Financial Network, "Investing for Impact Portland" will take place from 9:00am to 4:30pm at the Mercy Corp Event Center, 28 SW 1st Avenue Portland, OR 97204. Full details are available online at http://investingforimpactevents.com.
"Investing for Impact Portland" will focus on how advisors can address the current demands of socially conscious investors by teaching the basics of responsible investing. This event series is designed for investors and investment professionals who are interested in putting money to work to change the world through responsible investment strategies, but who may not have all the right tools at their fingertips.
"Transformative Investing: From 'SRI Jail' to Rehab" is the title of a panel that will include Portland financial planner Celia Mueller CFP; Jane Carten, president and director of Bellingham-based Saturna Capital; Matt Moscardi, head of financial sector research, MSCI ESG Research; and George R. Gay, CFP, AIF, Chief Executive Officer of First Affirmative Financial Network.
"Assets Not Expenses: Rethinking How We Value Human Capital" is a panel that will feature: Danielle Fugere, president, Oakland-based As You Sow; Jonas Kron, Esq., senior vice president and director of shareholder advocacy, Trillium Asset Management; Holly Testa, AIF, director of shareowner engagement, First Affirmative Financial Network.
Mel Miller, chief economist for First Affirmative Financial Network will offer a presentation titled: Economic Update: Straight Talk in an Election Year. And George Gay, CEO of First Affirmative will present an educational session focused on fiduciary duty and responsible investing.
Event organizers expect to offer up to four hours of continuing education (CE) credit for investment professionals who hold a CFP, CFA, or CIMA designation. Portland is the second stop for similar financial professional training sessions; Chicago, New York, and Boston will follow in May, June, and July. Investing for Impact events in 2016 will culminate with the 27th annual SRI Conference on Sustainable, Responsible, Impact Investing, November 9–11, 2016 in Denver, Colorado, where the theme will be "All In For Impact."
First Affirmative Financial Network President Steve Schueth said: "Although the SRI landscape is rapidly expanding, many investment advisors across the country are still attempting to serve socially conscious clients without much support from their firms, and without a great deal of the information and insights that impact-oriented clients require. That's where our regional 'Investing for Impact' event series comes into play—offering the information, tools, resources, and services that advisors need to meet the growing demand for more responsible investment strategies."
