Hot Hockey in Buffalo, New York? 82 Degree Weather Forecast, Labatt Blue Beer and Chicken Wings Planned for Labor Day Weekend

What: 

The weather forecast says – 82 degrees and sunny. Yet, locals in Buffalo will take to the "ice" playing an outdoor hockey tournament, drinking their favorite beer – Labatt Blue Beer and eating plenty of chicken wings. Labatt Blue has created a one-day hockey tournament that is played in the heat of summer on synthetic ice at the National Buffalo Wing Festival. Eight teams have been pre-selected to compete in the tournament. All participating teams are of intermediate to advanced level, and have played in the Labatt Blue Buffalo Pond Hockey Tournament held in the winter in Buffalo, New York.

When:  

Saturday, August 31, from noon to 9 p.m.

Where:  

The National Buffalo Wing Festival held at Coca-Cola Field, home of the Buffalo Bisons. The rink will be located near the Labatt Beer tent on Exchange Street in downtown Buffalo, New York.

Details:  

Eight teams with up to six players each will compete on a 20 by 40 foot synthetic ice rink using a two-on-two format. Each game will consist of two, 17-minute periods and teams will play a minimum of three games each. Players will use a regulation size ice hockey puck and shoot into pond hockey nets with no goalie. Hockey pucks and sticks cannot be lifted over players' knees.
