Hospital On 280 Becomes Grandview Medical Center
State of the art hospital scheduled to open early 2016
BIRMINGHAM, Ala., July 31, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Representatives from Trinity Medical Center, along with officials from Community Health Systems, announced today the nearly one-million-square-foot hospital on Highway 280 will be known as Grandview Medical Center.
At a celebration event themed "The Future of Healthcare in Birmingham," Community Health Systems Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer Wayne T. Smith premiered the Grandview name and logo to a crowd of state and local elected officials, business leaders and area residents.
"The new hospital deserves a name that reflects the grandeur of this building and the beauty of the campus," said Smith. "It needs a name that captures the optimism and perspective of the world class teams that will deliver care here and honors the progress and distinction they've achieved."
The 65-acre campus on which the hospital is located has long been identified as "Grandview." Several corporate headquarters, including those of developer Daniel Corporation, are located in the Grandview Plaza office park onsite, as is the Cahaba Grand Conference Center. With the hospital's completion now certain, several additional projects are anticipated on the campus, such as physician office buildings and other healthcare spaces.
"The new name positions the campus and all the inpatient, outpatient and office-based services that will be provided here with a unique and synergistic opportunity to become a regional healthcare destination of choice," said Trinity Medical Center President & CEO Keith Granger.
Granger also emphasized that Trinity will continue under its existing name as long as it operates on the Montclair Road campus.
"Our people, our quality of care, and most importantly, our commitment will remain the same when we relocate," said Granger. "But our physical surroundings will change dramatically as we build out one of the most advanced hospitals in the country."
Speakers at the event, which included Alabama Governor Robert Bentley, Daniel Corporation President Charlie Tickle, Brasfield & Gorrie Chairman Miller Gorrie and A.G. Gaston President Walter Howlett, shared details of the Grandview Medical Center development and extolled the economic impact and jobs creation associated with it.
Mayor William A. Bell was unable to attend the event after being invited to speak to the United States Congress regarding Birmingham's 50th anniversary commemoration of the civil rights movement. In a letter to Trinity officials Bell stated, "The development of Grandview Medical Center and the surrounding campus further solidifies our city's position as a healthcare center of excellence.
"This important project brings much needed access to healthcare services for residents in the fastest growing area in the state – and it brings thousands of jobs and massive economic impact in the process," added Bell. "I commend the leadership of Trinity and CHS for their vision, and for their commitment to the City of Birmingham and its residents."
