LONG BEACH, Calif., March 24, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Federal employees will hold a demonstration at the VA Long Beach Healthcare System facility to shed light on the culture of retaliation and inadequate levels of staffing. The employees, members of the American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE) Local 1203, say the environment, steeped with employee intimidation tactics and gross mismanagement, is harmful to veterans.
"The conditions in which employees must work and veterans receive their care have become dire," said AFGE VA Local 1203 Treasurer Virginia Speth. "Severe understaffing, excessive workloads, and abysmal recruitment and retention practices have caused the facility to operate below industry standards on a number of levels. When workers speak up for patient care and offer solutions they are targeted. This culture of fear and retaliation must cease if we are to fulfill the promise to our nation's veterans. "
