Hospice of Michigan Gala Pays Tribute to Detroit Tigers Legend Ernie Harwell
Other community partners also to be honored at 26th annual Crystal Rose Gala
DETROIT, Aug. 24, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Legendary Detroit Tigers broadcaster Ernie Harwell will be remembered by Hospice of Michigan at its 26th annual Crystal Rose Gala at the Westin Book Cadillac September 16. Harwell's widow Lulu and his son, William, will attend the gala where the City Theatre will present a scene from Mitch Albom's popular play, "Ernie," as part of the evening's program. The Harwell family chose hospice care for Ernie during his final days.
"Ernie Harwell gave so much to so many during his broadcasting career in Detroit. We're happy he was able to spend his final days peacefully in hospice care," said Dottie Deremo, President, CEO of Hospice of Michigan. "It seemed fitting that others could help look after him when he had done so much for so many during his life."

- Lois Pincus Cohn, Outstanding Volunteer
