Hospice Foundation of America Webinar Focuses on Coping with the Death of an Adult Child
WASHINGTON, Oct. 10, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Hospice Foundation of America (HFA) will present a live, online webinar focusing on Death of an Adult Child: Helping Families Cope, on Tuesday, October 16, from noon—1:30pmET.
Kenneth J. Doka, PhD and Patricia Loder, Executive Director of The Compassionate Friends, will raise sensitivity to the unique issues that arise when an adult child dies, as well as strategies and resources for surviving parents and families. "We do not expect our children to die before us," states Dr. Doka. "Yet when a child dies in adulthood, the focus of bereavement support is often on the surviving partner and children. The grief of parents whose adult child has died is often ignored or disenfranchised."
During the program, the panelists will describe the factors that complicate grief when an adult child dies, such as changed relationships with in-laws and grandchildren; identify helpful strategies to assist the grieving parents of a deceased adult child; and discuss resources for parents of a deceased adult child, including support groups and print resources.
Webinar participants will have the opportunity to ask the panel questions during the live program. Registration is $85 for an organization or $35 for individuals; free CEs are included for a wide range of professionals. Registration includes access to the program online for one year after the original air date.
This program is part of HFA's fall Grief Webinar series, featuring some of the best-known experts in the field of grief and bereavement.
