Hospice Foundation of America Webinar Focuses on Adolescents and Traumatic Loss
WASHINGTON, June 9, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Hospice Foundation of America (HFA) will present a live, online webinar focusing on Adolescents and Traumatic Loss on Tuesday, June 17, from noon—1:30pm ET. Kenneth J. Doka, PhD and Carla Sofka, PhD, MSW, will discuss traumatic losses such as accidents or violence that remain leading causes of adolescent death. This webinar will address the nature of these losses as well as approaches to intervention and prevention.
"According to the Centers for Disease Control, the majority of deaths for young people ages 10—19 in the U.S. are through unintentional injury and other violent or traumatic causes," Doka said. "Professionals who work with young people need to be prepared to offer appropriate support and guidance to grieving young people after the traumatic loss of a peer." The program will include a discussion of the pros and cons of the use of social media in the grieving process, and review best practices surrounding organizational responses and memorialization.
Hospice Foundation of America webinars offer affordable, easily accessible information presented by some of the best-known names in the study of death, grief and loss, while also providing suggestions for hands-on strategies that can be applied in clinical practice. During the live program, participants have the opportunity to ask questions of presenters. Registration includes access to the program for a full year as an ongoing educational resource for staff and volunteer training. Registration is $84.95 for an organization or $24.95 for individuals; or save by registering for all three programs ($240 for organizations and $70 for individuals).
