Hosfelt Gallery Features Works by Local Legends, Technology Pioneers, and International Artists and Designers at the 2017 FOG Design + Art Fair
Founding Gallery of the San Francisco Art Fair will Feature an Unusual Juxtaposition of Architectural and Organic Forms in a Variety of Media
SAN FRANCISCO, Dec. 28, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Hosfelt Gallery, San Francisco's premier contemporary art gallery, today announced its featured artists for the third annual FOG Design + Art Fair taking place January 12-15, 2017 at Fort Mason in San Francisco. As one of the founding members of the San Francisco-based art fair, Hosfelt will present a curated selection of paintings, works on paper, photographs, electronic sculpture, ceramics, and unique furniture by both local and international artists and designers. The presentation thematically reflects formal juxtapositions of angular architectural forms with organic plant life.
San Francisco-based new media pioneer Jim Campbell presents Repixelated, a sculpture utilizing color LEDs in a new format. The work explores the limits of perception and layers of pixelation through moving imagery transmitted across the uneven surface of a grid of clear blocks of varying heights. The gallery will also present never-before-exhibited works from legendary local artist Jay DeFeo. DeFeo came of age during the Beat Generation and is most famous for her monumental 1966 painting The Rose, in the collection of the Whitney Museum of American Art. DeFeo's later work, from the 1970s and 80s, is lesser known, but no less significant in its complexity and beauty.
International artists include German painter Stefan Kürten, who will present new paintings on canvas and paper of chic, mid-century modern homes and meticulously manicured landscapes. His scenes depict both perfection and something unsettling and sinister, alluding to the underlying fallacy of the promises of Modernism and the American Dream. A Korean artist based in Germany, Young-Jae Lee makes ceramic vessels that blur the distinction between design and fine art.
"The Fog Design + Art Fair is quickly becoming one of the most talked-about art fairs in the United States, and we are proud to not only be a founding gallery, but also participating again in this growing event," said Todd Hosfelt, owner of Hosfelt Gallery. "This year, we present an unusual juxtaposition of artists and designers - a blend of local legends, technology pioneers, and international sculptors and painters selectively curated around the theme of contrasting architectural and organic forms."
The FOG + Design Fair will be held at Fort Mason in San Francisco, January 12-15. The preview charity gala will take place on January 11, from 4:00 – 10:00 pm. For more information about the FOG Design + Art Fair and to order tickets, visit https://fogfair.com.
About Hosfelt Gallery
Founded 20 years ago -- in September of 1996 -- Hosfelt Gallery has distinguished itself as a pioneer, both in its consistent introductions of exceptional new artists from around the world, and its unconventional exhibition spaces. Hosfelt Gallery's trailblazing move to its current location established the nucleus of what is now San Francisco's newest and most vibrant arts district, DoReMi. With 9,000 square feet of sky-lit exhibition space in a former door factory, the gallery's integration of distinctive contemporary design with unaltered remnants of the building's prior function mirrors its programmatic emphasis on innovative expression born out of a deep understanding of social, political, and/or cultural history. In 2015, Hosfelt Gallery founded the first Digital Media Conservation Lab to address the growing need for the preservation of digital and electronic art. Hosfelt Gallery is a member of the Art Dealers Association of America. For information on current and upcoming exhibitions and artists represented, visit www.hosfeltgallery.com.
