Horseshoe Casino And Chicago Gateway Green Host Earth Day "Lights Out" Ceremony To Turn Off Guinness Book of World Records' Largest Free-Standing Structure In Indiana
Casino donates $35,000 to help maintain the upkeep of the greenery on Chicago's expressways
HAMMOND, Ind., April 23, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Horseshoe Casino, the premier entertainment and gambling destination in the Midwest, celebrated Earth Day (April 22nd) with long-time partner, Chicago Gateway Green, a nonprofit organization dedicated to greening and beautifying Chicago's expressway, gateways, and neighborhoods.
To recognize the importance of the Earth's natural resources, representatives from Horseshoe Casino and Chicago Gateway Green gathered for a "Lights Out" ceremony and turned off all non-essential lights on the exterior of the casino, as well as the Horseshoe Casino Marquee, holding approximately 7,500 light bulbs, and currently the Guinness Book of World Records' largest free-standing structure in Indiana.
To cap off the "Lights Out" ceremony, Horseshoe Casino donated $35,000 to Chicago Gateway Green to help maintain the upkeep of the greenery on Chicago's expressways. Additionally, throughout the month of April the casino has been collecting donations from guests to support Chicago Gateway Green. Horseshoe Casino will be matching the donations up to $5,000, helping to plant trees in the Chicagoland area. Approximately $130 donated will help plant a tree and $500 donated will maintain a tree for one year.
"Horseshoe Casino is thrilled to continue our partnership with Chicago Gateway Green," said Jennifer Galle, Vice President of Marketing at Horseshoe Casino. "Many of our guests drive alongside the Chicago expressways to visit the casino, so we are excited to pay it forward by helping maintain the trees and greenery en route to Horseshoe Casino."
The "Lights Out" event and initiatives supporting Earth Day are part of Horseshoe Casino and Caesars Entertainment's CodeGreen initiative. Every year, Caesars Entertainment and its nearly 70,000 employees engage in environmental programs and sustainable business practices that provide tangible low-carbon solutions to reduce water, energy and waste consumption.
