"Horatio Alger Association Members are leaders who inspire others not by what they have achieved alone, but how they have overcome adversity to accomplish so much," said David Sokol, chairman of Horatio Alger Association. "In spite of his modest upbringing, Mr. Cote pursued a college education and worked tirelessly, climbing the corporate ladder to be the CEO of Honeywell, a $40 billion Fortune 100 global company. Embodying the key characteristics shared amongst Members of the Association, he is proof that with hard work and unwavering faith in one's self, anything is possible."
Possessing a strong commitment to philanthropy, Horatio Alger Members are celebrating the 30th anniversary of the Association's scholarship programs in 2014. The scholarship programs provide educational assistance to at-risk youth with an admirable commitment to continuing their education and serving their communities. Today, the Association administers one of the nation's largest, privately-funded, need-based scholarship programs in North America, having provided more than $100 million in undergraduate, graduate and specialized scholarships since 1984. Krissie Davis, a student at Cocheco Arts and Tech Academy from Dover, New Hampshire has been recognized for her exceptional accomplishments with the 2014 Horatio Alger National Scholarship in the amount of $21,000.
"My family always taught me that education was the key to a better life and I truly believe it," said Tony Novelly, president and CEO of Horatio Alger Association.
