Hood® Sportsmanship Scholarship® Winners Recognized in Boston
18 High School Seniors From Across New England Awarded $5,000 Scholarships
Hood Has Provided $450,000 in College Scholarships Since 2010
LYNNFIELD, Mass., May 19, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- HP Hood, New England's leading dairy processor, today awarded 18 high school seniors with a $5,000 Hood® Sportsmanship Scholarship® presented by Hood Milk. During a May 17th ceremony, three high school seniors from each of the six New England states – Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Vermont – were honored for their integrity and sportsmanship on and off the playing field. These students will also now be included in the Sportsmanship Exhibit at The Sports Museum at the TD Garden – the first sportsmanship exhibit in the country.
Hood has been committed to supporting local communities for more than 160 years. In its fifth year, the Hood Sportsmanship Scholarship program received more than 3,400 entries. Ten finalists in each state were determined by a general public vote, which was followed by in-person interviews by a panel of judges who selected the winners in each state.
Gord Kluzak, former Bruins Defenseman and current investment advisor at Goldman Sachs, served as Hood Sportsmanship Scholarship spokesperson this year and spoke to students about the importance of good sportsmanship.
"Sportsmanship was always at the forefront of my athletic career. It is something that defines an athlete and stays with them both on and off the field," said Kluzak. "Because of that, I am honored to be a part of the Hood Sportsmanship Scholarship program, which not only celebrates, but rewards, sportsmanship and those in our communities who embody it."
