LYNNFIELD, Mass., May 9, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- HP Hood, the leading dairy brand in New England, announced today it awarded 18 high school seniors with a $5,000 Hood® Milk Sportsmanship Scholarship. During a ceremony held at Gillette Stadium, three winners from each of the six New England states—Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and Vermont—were honored for their character and sportsmanship on and off the field.
As one of the largest scholarship programs in New England, the Hood Milk Sportsmanship Scholarship received thousands of applications this year. Winners demonstrated good sportsmanship while participating in a varsity high school sport, excelled in the classroom (3.0 GPA or higher), and have a history of volunteering in the community.
"We were impressed by the quality of applicants that we received and overwhelmed by their commitment to good sportsmanship on the field, in the classroom and in their communities," said Lynne Bohan, vice president of communications and government affairs at Hood. "We are proud to offer support for exceptional high school seniors across New England."
The Hood Sportsmanship Scholarship®, in its eighth year, reflects Hood's 170-year commitment to giving back to the local community. Since its inception, the scholarship has awarded $720,000 in college scholarships to students across New England.
