Honorary Oscar-Winning Director Hal Needham to Attend 2013 Bandit Run, Sponsored by Restore a Muscle Car
RAMC's weeklong "Smokey and the Bandit" journey to drive Pontiac Trans Am enthusiasts west
LINCOLN, Neb., March 13, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Restore a Muscle Car (RAMC) is pleased to announce that Hal Needham, honorary Oscar winner and director of "Smokey and the Bandit," will be a special guest of the 2013 Bandit Run.
The seventh annual event will kick off a week-long journey from Lincoln, Neb., to Golden, CO. on the morning of July 13, starting with an open house at RAMC. Saturday's schedule will include a car show, barbeque and an autograph session with Needham. That evening "Smokey and the Bandit" will be shown with a Q & A session with Needham following the movie. The Bandit Run – with more than 80 Trans Am and other vehicles – will then leave from RAMC Sunday morning, July 14, and will wrap up at the Coors Brewery in Golden, CO. on Friday, July 19.
The Bandit Run is open to everyone, including those who do not drive a Pontiac Trans Am. The annual traveling car show offers an opportunity for gear heads, Trans Am enthusiasts, fans of "Smokey and the Bandit" and others to embrace an Americana-flavored, unique travel event.
The Bandit Run originated in 2007 when RAMC owner, Dave Hall, and Trans Am enthusiast David Hershey decided to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the film "Smokey and the Bandit," by reenacting the quest to drive Coors beer from Texarkana, Texas, to Atlanta, GA. Subsequent Bandit Runs have traversed different parts of the country, predominately the South.
"We are excited to change it up a bit and take a Western route this year and enjoy some beautiful countryside with the group. The participation of Hal Needham will make this run even more exciting," said Dave Hall.
The inclusion of Hal Needham is a special feature of the trip. He was recently honored at the 2013 Oscars for his extensive stunt work in Hollywood over the past 40 years, including his work on "Smokey and the Bandit."
This also is the first time Bandit Run participants have visited a Coors Brewery. For those who haven't seen "Smokey," the movie's star, Burt Reynolds, had a long way to go and a short time to get there to drive the refrigerated Coors from Texas to Georgia.
