Honeywell's Full Advanced Avionics Suite Selected by Atlant Soyuz in $7 Million Agreement
IntuVue™ 3-D Weather Radar Improves Safety by Accurately Detecting Weather Hazards Earlier, and at Longer Ranges, Than Other Systems
IntuVue's Reduced System Weight and High Reliability Saves Up To $10,000 Per Aircraft Annually
FARNBOROUGH AIR SHOW, UK, July 20 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Honeywell (NYSE: HON) announced today it will provide Atlant Soyuz its full avionics suite, including the award-winning IntuVue™ 3-D advanced weather radar, for their Boeing B737-800 aircraft in a contract valued at more than $7 million.

"IntuVue was the first system certified to the Federal Aviation Administration's new enhanced turbulence Minimum Operating Performance (MOPS), a feature that has demonstrated a 50 percent reduction in turbulence related incidents," said Mike Madsen, vice president of Airlines at Honeywell Aerospace. "It is also the only commercial radar that utilizes pulse compression technology, providing a higher resolution display of true weather hazards, for greater accuracy at a longer range."
Honeywell's advanced avionics suite for Atlant Soyuz includes Quantum™ Line Communication & Navigation System (CNS), VHF Data Radio (VDR), High Frequency voice and data radio, next generation Traffic Alert and Collision Avoidance System (TCAS), solid state flight data recorder (FDR) and cockpit voice recorder (CVR), flight data acquisition management, airborne data loader, ACARS datalink communications management unit, cockpit data printer, automated fixed emergency locator (ELT) and survival ELT, wheels and brakes as well as retrofit.
The agreement covers four B737-800 aircraft that will be delivered through 2011.
IntuVue's slim design and high reliability can reduce operating costs by up to 53 percent, reduce weight by up to 25 percent, and reduce maintenance costs by up to 30 percent as compared to other commercially available products.
Honeywell's IntuVue weather radar has been selected for more than 2,000 aircraft. It's been certified and flying on the B777 since 2006 and the B737NG since 2008. A military version of IntuVue has been flying on the C-17 military transport since 2004.
Honeywell's IntuVue is standard equipment on the Airbus A380 and A350 as part of the Aircraft Environment Surveillance System. Deliveries are expected to start with the single aisle A320 family (A318, A319, A320 and A321) in the fourth quarter of 2010, with selection on the long-range A330s and A340s, including freighters, in the second quarter of 2011. It is specified as standard equipment on the Gulfstream G650 when it enters service.
Honeywell's avionics, navigation and electrical solutions help maximize airline and route efficiencies, decrease aircraft weight and space requirements, reduce pilot workload and training requirements to lower total cost of ownership.
TCAS is a surveillance product developed by Honeywell that warns the pilot about nearby aircraft and provides avoidance maneuvers, enabling improved safety and situational awareness. FDR and CVR document flight data parameters and cockpit voice conversation for analysis. CNS enables cockpit crew to interact with ground stations such as Air Traffic Control.
Honeywell equipment available on Boeing aircraft includes the auxiliary power unit, cabin management system and services, communication, navigation and information management, displays, environmental control system, electric power, electronic fuel controls, flight controls, flight management systems, lighting, mechanical components, surveillance equipment, wheels and brakes.
