Honeywell Turbo Technologies Wins 2011 Automotive News PACE™ Award for DualBoost Turbocharger
Industry award honors excellence in automotive innovation and execution
DETROIT, April 14, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Honeywell (NYSE: HON) Transportation Systems received the 2011 Automotive News PACE™ (Premier Automotive Suppliers Contributions to Excellence) Award for its VNT DualBoost Turbo. This turbocharger brought to market five distinct innovations to provide Ford Motor Company's Power Stroke engine with improved engine performance, fuel economy, and responsiveness —all while cutting emissions.
"We are honored to be recognized for our continued leadership with this prestigious award," said Alex Ismail, president and CEO of Honeywell Transportation Systems. "Technology and innovation continue to lead the agenda for the automotive industry as the demand for fuel efficient solutions remains a priority across vehicle segments. We believe our aerospace heritage and current global manufacturing and design capabilities continue to set us apart within the industry, and allow us to drive industry technology forward."
At the heart of Honeywell's DualBoost turbocharger is a dual-sided compressor wheel that delivers twin turbo performance in a single turbo package. The reduced packaging requirements allowed Honeywell to position the turbo between the banks of the V engine for optimal performance.
In addition, the VNT DualBoost includes additional innovations including low friction ball bearings and pedestal mounting to make the design more rigid and reduce noise, vibration and harshness to best-in-class levels.
Last year, Honeywell was awarded more than $3 billion of new business over the life of its turbo programs and expects to introduce more than 100 new turbo applications this year alone, and has more than 500 engine applications in its development pipeline. Turbocharger technology allows carmakers to provide 20 percent to 40 percent more fuel economy, improved emissions to meet more stringent regulatory requirements and all without compromising performance.
