PHOENIX, April 20 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Honeywell (NYSE: HON) announced today that it will provide its full suite of safety avionics, including its IntuVue™ 3-D advanced weather radar, to VRG Linhas Aereas S.A. in a contract valued at $40 million over the life of the contract, including aftermarket support.

"Honeywell's IntuVue 3-D advanced weather radar helps pilots make better decisions, and its reliability and weight savings can yield a cost savings of nearly $10,000 per aircraft," said Mike Madsen, vice president of Airlines, Honeywell Aerospace.
Deliveries of the 65 B737-800 aircraft are expected to begin in 2013.
The full suite of safety avionics includes Honeywell's IntuVue weather radar, Traffic Alert and Collision Avoidance System (TCAS), Quantum™ Line Communications & Navigation System (CNS), solid state Flight Data Recorder (FDR) and Cockpit Voice Recorder (CVR), and emergency locator transmitter.
IntuVue's slim design and high reliability can reduce operating costs by up to 53 percent, reduce weight by up to 25 percent, and reduce maintenance costs by up to 30 percent as compared to other commercially available products. It's also the first fully automatic weather radar system certified to the FAA's Enhanced Turbulence Detection Minimum Operation Performance Standard (MOPS), which enables pilots to see and avoid turbulence sooner. It is the only commercial radar that utilizes pulse compressions for greater accuracy at longer range – a technology used previously only in military radars.
TCAS is a surveillance product developed by Honeywell that warns the pilot about nearby aircraft and provides avoidance maneuvers, enabling improved flight safety through increased airspace situational awareness. FDR and CVR document flight data parameters and cockpit voice conversation for analysis, and CNS enables cockpit crew to interact with ground stations such as Air Traffic Control.
Honeywell equipment on the B737-800 includes the auxiliary power unit, environmental control system, aircraft lighting, navigation and communication equipment, flight deck displays, inertial reference systems, pneumatic valves, wheels, brakes, mechanical components and nitrogen generation system (NGS/OBBIGS).
