Honeywell Electronic Materials Receives Continuous Improvement Award From Samsung Austin Semiconductor (SAS)
Recognizes excellence for quality, materials technology
MORRIS TOWNSHIP, N.J., May 21, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Honeywell (NYSE: HON) Electronic Materials announced today that it has received the Samsung Continuous Improvement Award (SCIA) from Samsung Austin Semiconductor (SAS), recognizing Honeywell for excellence in quality, materials technology and purchasing process.
Honeywell Electronic Materials was presented with the award for its supply of sputtering targets to SAS. Honeywell is a leading supplier of sputtering targets used by semiconductor manufacturers such as Samsung as the source of metal to form the wiring in microchips.
"We're honored to receive this award from Samsung, a recognized industry leader that sets high standards for quality and continuous improvement," said David Diggs, vice president and general manager of Honeywell Electronic Materials. "Long-term success in the semiconductor industry is based on close win-win relationships between suppliers and manufacturers, and awards like this demonstrate that we're on the right path."
SAS began the award program to help foster the relationship between Samsung and its semiconductor materials suppliers as well as drive continuous improvements in quality. Because of the complexity of new chip designs and the hundreds of processing steps necessary to produce each chip, manufacturers such as Samsung count on innovative materials technology and rigorous quality standards from their suppliers.
Honeywell Electronic Materials, part of Honeywell Performance Materials and Technologies, supplies microelectronic polymers, electronic chemicals, and other advanced materials along with an extensive set of product offerings under its metals business segment, including physical vapor deposition (PVD) targets and coil sets, precious metal thermocouples, and low alpha emissivity plating anodes and advanced heat spreader materials used during back-end packaging processes for thermal management and electrical interconnect.
