MINNEAPOLIS, Nov. 21, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Honeywell (NYSE: HON) today announced it completed a major fire and life-safety system upgrade for the Mountain View Los Altos High School District (MVLA) in Mountain View, Calif. Honeywell upgraded two of the district's high school campuses to its XLS3000 fire alarm control panel and renovated the life safety systems across 30 buildings during the district's summer break.

The upgrades will help MVLA, a district of more than 3,600 students, improve the reliability of its fire safety system, reduce operational costs and enhance safety across the district. In addition, the fire safety system will utilize infrastructure from the district's previous vendor in order to create a centralized system to improve ease of use and mitigate maintenance costs.
The contract was awarded through California Multiple Award Schedules (CMAS) Procurement Program, available to state government entities and public educational institutions in California. The CMAS Program allows for faster, more efficient procurement, which translates into considerable savings in terms of time and resources.
"We sought a partner with a reliable solution that could meet our aggressive implementation schedule and provide us with ongoing, quality service," said Joe White, associate superintendent of business services, MVLA. "Honeywell proved that it could address our needs for reliability while meeting a very aggressive deployment schedule."
Honeywell drew resources from nearby offices and worked with local contractors to implement systems at two high schools. While similar projects can take months to complete, Honeywell finished the work in six weeks. Pleased with the execution and results of the project, the district entered into a three-year service contract with Honeywell – an agreement which includes testing and inspecting, as well as maintenance services, to ensure the systems are running efficiently and meeting local fire codes.
Honeywell's XLS3000 is an intelligent alarm panel designed to improve emergency-system response time during a fire. The technology enables devices to communicate with each other automatically, reducing response times from three to 10 seconds to less than a second.
"With our extensive network of resources and industry expertise, Honeywell showed it can go above and beyond expectations, regardless of timeframe," said Paul Orzeske, president of Honeywell Building Solutions. "Our work with MVLA and the subsequent service agreement is a testament to our project management capabilities as well as our focus on developing and maintaining relationships."
