HERNDON, Va., June 28, 2017 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Humane Farm Animal Care (HFAC), the leading international nonprofit certification program improving the lives of farm animals in food production, announced two new farms have joined the Certified Humane Raised and Handled® program – Honey Sweetie Acres in Goshen, Ohio, and Pound Ridge Organics in Westchester, New York.
Both farms have met all the Certified Humane® qualifications, passed independent, third-party inspections, and may now use the Certified Humane® label on their qualifying products.
Honey Sweetie Farms – Honey Sweetie Acres operates a goat farm in Goshen, Ohio, which produces the only artisan goat milk soaps and lotions on the Certified Humane® program. "A lot of non-farm animal people don't know how farm animals are raised," says Regina Bauscher who operates Honey Sweetie Farms with her husband Steve. "With all the interest in animal welfare, we wanted to assure our consumers about how we care for our goats, and the Certified Humane® label let's us do that." See pictures and their story here.
Pound Ridge Organics – Pound Ridge Organics operates a farm in Northern Westchester County, New York, with a diverse flock of hens whose lay eggs in a beautiful palette of colors, including blue, olive green, pink, dark chocolate, and numerous buff shades. They specialize in Heritage breeds with lineages that go back 200 plus years -- many from the Livestock Conservancy's priority conservation list. "I understand bird behavior and know what they need to live long happy productive lives," says Donna Simons, founder of Pound Ridge Organics. "I work hard every day to ensure they are raised according to my ethical standards, which also meets Certified Humane's standard." See pictures and their story here.
The Certified Humane Raised and Handled® label assures consumers that meat, pork, poultry, egg, dairy and other products have been produced according to HFAC's precise standards for humane farm animal care. Animals must receive a nutritious diet without antibiotics or hormones and must be raised with shelter, resting areas and sufficient space to support natural behaviors.
Since 2003, more than 665 million farm animals have been raised Certified Humane® in North and South America. Check out the Certified Humane® "Where to Buy" page or download the free Certified Humane® App. For additional information on HFAC, visit www.certifiedhumane.org.
