TEGUCIGALPA, Honduras, Jan. 18, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Yesterday, Honduran President Juan Orlando Hernández thanked international auditors from the firms Quara and LSQA for delivering an ISO 9001: 2015 certification to the Honduran Ministry of Development and Social Inclusion.
ISO 9001: 2015 certifies an organization as a "quality management system" and indicates that an organization reliably delivers on its promises to consumers.
"In Honduras, high-quality government projects are now the norm," President Hernández said. "My administration is committed to full transparency and accountability when spending public funds."
Quara and LSQA delivered the ISO 9001: 2015 certification to the Ministry yesterday. The certification indicates that the Ministry has "demonstrate[d] its ability to consistently provide products and services that meet customer and applicable statutory and regulatory requirements," and has "aim[ed] to enhance customer satisfaction through the effective application of the system, including processes for improvement."
International business leaders also applauded the Ministry's achievement. At a press conference announcing the certification, Shinichi Kondo, an advisor to the Japanese International Cooperation Agency, said, "For the Ministry of Development and Social Inclusion certification of ISO 9001: 2015 means having quality processes compared with large international firms."
Kondo pointed out the Ministry's Vida Mejor program, which aims to improve educational attainment for 200,000 impoverished Hondurans via social assistance payments, as an example of the Ministry's success. "With my experience, I had never seen a program as impressive as Vida Mejor, the reasons that have amazed me is that this platform is very complete," he said.
The Vida Mejor program is part of the Hernández Administration's long-term effort to reduce poverty and stimulate economic growth.
Another part of that effort is Honduras 20/20, which funds development projects in agriculture, manufacturing, and tourism. The initiative is set to create more than 600,000 Honduran jobs by 2022.
