Homestead Children Design Dream Playground: Propel Homestead, McDonald's Foundation And KaBOOM! Host Design Day For New Playground
PITTSBURGH, July 11, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Propel Homestead, the McDonald's Foundation, and organizers from KaBOOM! hosted a design day for children at Propel Homestead on Wednesday, July 10. Children from Propel Homestead and the community put crayons to paper and drew their dream playgrounds, which will ultimately become a reality. Elements from the children's drawings will be incorporated into the final design for the new community playground to be built on Aug. 29 at the school. Design day was also the first meeting of the playground planning committee that will work for the next seven weeks to plan and prepare for the construction of the new playground.

Today's kids spend less time playing outside than any previous generation in part because only 1-in-5 children live within walking distance of a park or playground. This play deficit is having profound consequences for kids physically, socially and cognitively. Children need a place to play every day in order to be active and healthy, something KaBOOM! has been committed to since 1996.
The new playground will provide more than 400 children in the Homestead community with a safe place to play. Currently, the children who attend Propel Homestead do not have an on-site playground to enjoy. The playground is the last of 12 playgrounds built in the past year as part of a new partnership between McDonald's Foundation and KaBOOM!. These projects will assist KaBOOM! in achieving its vision of a great place to play within walking distance of every child in America.
