The Build Brigade begins with a ceremony Friday, August 24 at 8:30 a.m. Following the opening event, the veteran and family members, HFOT representatives, and selected invited guests will work together to raise the home's first wall. The goal of the two-day build is to frame, side, and roof the house and install windows and doors. Interior and finishing work will be completed in the following months. The home will provide Montgomery with maximum freedom of movement and the ability to live more independently.
Montgomery was on his third deployment when he lost both of his legs and severely injured his left arm in an IED blast in the Northern Helmand Province of Afghanistan with 3/5 Dark Horse Marine Battalion on December 7, 2010. He looks forward to recovering in a home built to accommodate his needs, providing him with more freedom and independence.
"Everybody needs a place to come home to at the end of the day...this accessible home is what I am looking forward to go home to," said Montgomery.
