The Build Brigade begins with a ceremony Friday, January 6 at 8:30 a.m. Following the opening event, volunteers will work together to raise the home's first wall. The goal of the three-day build is to frame, side, and roof the house and install windows and doors. Interior and finishing work will be completed in the following months. The home will provide maximum freedom of movement and the ability to live more independently.
While on his second deployment, LCpl Peterson was left a double amputee after an explosion in the Southern Helmand Province of Afghanistan on July 24, 2010. He is presently living in military housing and is looking forward to living in a home built to accommodate his needs.
"A specially adapted Homes for Our Troops home will give me a place to call my own; one where I can focus on my recovery. Having it adapted to my needs will make overcoming all of the obstacles in life that much easier," said LCpl Peterson. "This will be a life-changing experience, returning my life to some sense of normalcy."
