The Build Brigade begins with a ceremony Friday, July 20 at 8:30 a.m. Following the opening event, volunteers will work together to raise the home's first wall. The goal of the three-day build is to frame, side, and roof the house and install windows and doors. Interior and finishing work will be completed in the following months. The home will provide Wright with maximum freedom of movement and the ability to live more independently.
Wright was left a triple amputee after stepping on an IED while securing a compound in Afghanistan on May 7, 2010. He looks forward to recovering in a home built to accommodate his needs, providing him with more freedom and independence.
"Receiving a specially adapted home from Homes for Our troops will allow me to live as normal a life as possible…it is awesome for me to think about and look forward to. It will allow me to be independent again and has lifted a great deal of weight off of my shoulders," said Wright.
