The Build Brigade begins with a ceremony Friday, June 15 at 8:30 a.m. Following the opening event, volunteers will work together to raise the home's first wall. The goal of the three-day build is to frame, side, and roof the house and install windows and doors. Interior and finishing work will be completed in the following months. The home will provide Keck with maximum freedom of movement and the ability to live more independently.
Keck was on his first deployment to Afghanistan when he lost his right leg and suffered severe hand injuries after stepping on an anti-personnel mine on September 13, 2008. He looks forward to recovering in a home built to accommodate his needs, providing him with more freedom and independence.
"A Homes for Our Troops specially adapted home will greatly reduce the challenges and extra effort that I now need to get in and out of my home," said Keck. "Thank you for your time, your help, and your support."
