The Build Brigade begins with a ceremony Friday, July 27 at 8:30 a.m. Following the opening event, volunteers will work together to raise the home's first wall. The goal of the three-day build is to frame, side, and roof the house and install windows and doors. Interior and finishing work will be completed in the following months. The home will provide Glavey with maximum freedom of movement and the ability to live more independently.
Marine Captain Patrick (PJ) Glavey was one and a half months into his first deployment when he lost both of his legs in an IED blast in Helmand Province, Afghanistan on October 28, 2010. He looks forward to recovering in a home built to accommodate his needs, providing him with more freedom and independence.
"Thanks to Homes for Our Troops, I will have the opportunity to live alongside my family ... assisting them in daily life rather than being a burden," said Glavey. "This is such an amazing opportunity given the terrible incident that occurred to me. Thank you so much, I am eternally grateful."
