Homes for Our Troops to Break Ground on Specially Adapted Home in Peoria for Severely Injured Veteran
PEORIA, Ariz., Oct. 1, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Homes for Our Troops (www.homesforourtroops.org), a national non-profit organization dedicated to building specially adapted homes for severely injured veterans, will hold a Groundbreaking Ceremony in Peoria on Saturday, October 6, to begin construction of a home for Army First Sergeant William "Mike" Leonard. The public is invited to attend.
The ceremony will begin at 10 a.m., signifying the official start of this project, resulting in a new, specially adapted home designed to accommodate the severe injuries 1SG Leonard sustained while serving his country. The home will provide Leonard with maximum freedom of movement and the ability to live more independently.
Leonard was on his fourth deployment when he lost both of his legs in an IED blast in Afghanistan on March 22, 2010. He looks forward to recovering in a home built to accommodate his needs.
"My injuries were life-changing events that left us unsure of my future and with many questions about where we would live and how I would be able to make a living and pay a mortgage," said Leonard. "Living in an accessible home built to suit my specific needs will be amazing. This will enable me/us to focus on living and helping others…we can 'pay it forward' and remember to never forget. Thank you for having such huge hearts…we are so lucky to have the support of others surrounding us."
