John S. Gonsalves to be presented with Zachary and Elizabeth Fisher Civilian Humanitarian Award during presentation at the Pentagon; Secretary of the Army to bestow the honor

TAUNTON, Mass., Sept. 21, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Homes for Our Troops (www.homesforourtroops.org), a national non-profit organization building specially adapted homes for severely injured veterans is extremely proud to announce President and Founder John S. Gonsalves has been selected to receive the 2011 Zachary and Elizabeth Fisher Distinguished Civilian Humanitarian Award. The presentation will be held Monday, September 26, during a ceremony in the Pentagon's Hall of Heroes. The honor will be bestowed by Secretary of the Army John McHugh.

The Zachary and Elizabeth Fisher Distinguished Civilian Humanitarian Award was established in 1996, named in honor of Zachary and Elizabeth Fisher for their extensive contributions to the support and welfare of service members and their families.

In 1998, a joint regulation established the award as a multiservice recognition demonstrating exceptional patriotism and humanitarian concern for service members and their families. Recipients must exemplify the Fisher's patriotic qualities, generosity and selfless dedication to improving the quality of life for service members.
