NEWPORT BEACH, Calif., Nov. 6, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- HomeAid and CBRE have teamed up again in 2017 to improve housing in low-income neighborhoods through CBRE's Cares Shelter Program and HomeAid's Care Day Program. CBRE has been a national sponsor of HomeAid America since 2010. During the past eight years, CBRE's foundation has contributed more than $120,000 to HomeAid America and its chapters, providing support to help house families and individuals in need.
This year, CBRE volunteers participated in workdays with HomeAid's chapters in Atlanta, the San Francisco Bay Area, and Portland, Oregon, making upgrades and repairs to transitional housing facilities. During these three "Care Days", HomeAid provided CBRE employees with its expertise in the maintenance of housing facilities for the homeless, whereby they could assist the residents in rebuilding their lives in dignified, safe surroundings.
San Francisco Bay Area
More than 40 CBRE and Google volunteers landscaped the exterior courtyard and painted the entryway and halls of the HomeFirst James Boccardo Center in San Jose. HomeFirst™ is a leading provider of services, shelter and housing opportunities to the homeless and those at risk of homelessness in Santa Clara County. They serve more than 4,000 adults, veterans, families and youth each year at seven locations including the Boccardo Reception Center, which is the county's largest homeless services center.
Portland, Oregon
HomeAid and CBRE joined forces, in conjunction with the Home Builders Association of Metro Portland, to help Community of Hope, an organization dedicated to empowering single-parent homeless families' move toward stability. CBRE volunteers provided a new deck and garden area for Hope House and construction involved weeding and planting new garden beds, building a new deck and awning, and providing new bark along the path. This project helped to improve living conditions for families struggling with homelessness.
Atlanta, Georgia
HomeAid Atlanta's Care Day took place at Covenant House Georgia (CHG), a non-profit service provider that serves Atlanta youth experiencing homelessness. CHG has a crisis shelter serving youth between the ages of 18-21, as well as an independent living program where clients have the opportunity to achieve stability and develop a plan for the future. CBRE volunteers worked to complete a variety of upgrades on the campus that included the clearing of property around CHG's independent living cottages.
"HomeAid has been blessed to have the active participation of CBRE in our volunteer activities for years now," said Peter Simons, CEO of HomeAid America. "They are one of our leading volunteer partners and have shown what one company committed to making a difference in their community can do. It is truly inspirational and they have touched many lives."
"It feels good to see the difference a little hard work can make for homeless families. CBRE is proud to impact the lives of so many in need through its volunteer efforts with HomeAid," stated Kathleen Thompson, the Director of the CBRE Foundation, a non-profit, public benefit corporation that funds the company's philanthropic initiatives.
