Holy Name Cathedral Demonstration Calls for Cardinal George to Apologize, According to Rainbow Sash Movement
CHICAGO, Jan. 6, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- The Rainbow Sash Movement, Gay Liberation Movement with support from Equality Illinois is bringing together a public response to Cardinal Francis George's words that compared the gay liberation movement to the KKK. We invite any supporters who can make this demonstration to join us in front of Holy Name Cathedral, 730 N. Wabash Ave. on Sunday January 8, 2012 @ 12Noon.
We are asking that Cardinal George publicly apologize to Gay/Lesbian/Bisexual/Transgender Community for his hostile and unreasonable remarks comparing the gay liberation movement to the KKK. We do not think this to be an unreasonable expectation.
Clearly public opinion would support this position given the across the board backlash to his biased statement in the broader Chicago Metropolitan Community and beyond. We believe the Chicago Tribune's recent editorial summed up the matter clearly in response to the Cardinal's statement. That's right: As recently as 70 years ago, the KKK openly demonstrated against the Catholic Church. What that has to do with the pride parade is lost on us.
We bear no ill will to either the parishioners of Holy Name Cathedral, or the broader Catholic Community of the Archdiocese of Chicago.
