SKILLMAN, N.J., April 11, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- ConvaTec, a world-leading developer and marketer of innovative medical technologies for community and hospital care, today announced that Holy Family Medical Center will now use ConvaTec Negative Pressure, which offers a line of products designed to overcome the clinical challenges of negative pressure wound therapy (NPWT). Holy Family Medical Center is a long-term acute care hospital and part of the Resurrection Health Care® System. Prior to evaluating ConvaTec Negative Pressure, the hospital used another negative pressure wound system. As part of a review of wound care products, wound care specialists at Holy Family Medical center evaluated the Engenex® System with Bio-Dome® dressing. The results of the evaluation showed dramatic decreases in wound size with no tissue disruption when using the Engenex® system with Bio-Dome® dressing technology.
According to the results of the evaluation, wounds managed with Engenex® system and Bio-Dome® technology dressings saw a mean decrease in wound size of 63.2 percent after two weeks of therapy and an overall mean decrease in wound size of 83.3 percent at the completion of therapy. In addition, there were no reports of tissue disruption at the time of dressing changes.
In addition to the quantitative data obtained during the evaluation, a number of qualitative results supporting the use of ConvaTec Negative Pressure were observed. The staff at Holy Family Medical Center noticed that patients would not become stressed about the potential for dressing changes with the use of the Engenex® system and Bio-Dome® dressings.
"Based on our evaluation, we believe that ConvaTec Negative Pressure presented a range of benefits for our patients, including the need for fewer dressing changes and decreases in wound size at 2 weeks and at the completion of treatment," said Cathy L. Johnson, RN, WCC, LNC, Wound Care Supervisor, Holy Family Medical Center. "We observed that wounds appeared to heal quickly and our staff reported that there were no incidences of tissue disruption when the Bio-Dome® dressings were removed."
