Hollywood Producer J. Herbert Klein Envisions Bright Future for Elks Organization with STARS OF TOMORROW Talent Competition
LOS ANGELES, Nov. 16, 2010 /PRNewswire/ -- For 60 years, producer J. Herbert Klein has belonged to the Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks (BPOE), one of the world's largest fraternal organizations. Now, at age 89, Klein wants to help the Elks attract younger members - with an Elks-sponsored high school talent competition called STARS OF TOMORROW.
Several months ago, BPOE leadership put out the word that the group was looking for "ways to make the Order succeed into the future," and Klein realized he had just the ticket with STARS OF TOMORROW - a series of statewide contests for high school dramatic and cinema arts programs that culminate in televised shows featuring the finalists. He plans to submit his idea to BPOE before the December 15, 2010 deadline.
Klein's experience producing programs for the Elks goes back to 1968, when he helmed the First American Theatre Awards - a competition for theater majors that concluded in an award show judged by leading names in show business. Variety called the program "quite remarkable," and top winner Eric Server went on to enjoy a successful career in television - appearing on nearly 100 programs, including Star Trek, The Incredible Hulk, and Mission Impossible.
Klein believes that STARS OF TOMORROW can help ensure a bright future for the Elks - and get young people excited about the organization.
"There are over a million Elks around the world," Klein explains, "and membership confers a host of benefits, including networking opportunities, socializing, and community outreach."
Klein describes his experiences as a Hollywood producer in his memoir, ROAD TO HOLLYWOOD, available on Amazon. Link:
