Wreaths Across America Announces Focus To Teach in 2010

HARRINGTON, Maine, Nov. 19, 2010 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Today Wreaths Across America announced the introduction of several key educational resources as part of its mission to remember, honor, and teach about the service and sacrifice of our veterans and active military.

Each of the new educational resources are designed to engage different school-age children with the living history that preserves our daily freedoms. Classroom resources include a Wreaths Across America story book and activity pages, a downloadable middle school curriculum, brochure, and the Million Memories Project - a free online website to create legacy pages (in partnership with 1000Memories.com).

As Karen Worcester, Executive Director of Wreaths Across America explains, "One of the big misconceptions about our organizations is that we 'decorate' graves. We place wreaths on the headstones of our nation's cemeteries as a visible demonstration of our mission to Remember, Honor, and Teach."

Worcester adds, "The educational materials are designed to engage with our younger generations so they will make the emotional connection about where and how our freedoms came at such a great cost. The Million Memories Project is focused on preserving the memory of veterans as a way to remember their lives and teach future generations the value and cost of the freedoms that they enjoy.  A free website (http://1000Memories.com/waa) allows users to create pages to remember and honor the sacrifices of veterans.
