- A tradition for eight decades, the Country Club Plaza's Season of Lights is a KC winter trademark. The 15-block spectacle features thousands of jewel-colored holiday lights that accentuate every dome, tower and window of the Spanish-inspired shopping district (Nov. 25-Jan. 16).
- Checking in at 100 feet, the Mayor's Christmas Tree at Hallmark's Crown Center is taller than those on display at the White House and Rockefeller Center. Sparkling with 7,200 white bulbs, the holiday icon represents the Mayor's Christmas Tree Fund, which aids Kansas City's less fortunate (Nov. 26-Jan. 1).
- The Kansas City Power & Light District has debuted a bright new tradition—Holiday Windows on Main. Blending art with light, some of the area's most talented local artists have partnered with 13 downtown businesses to create enchanting window displays inspired by those in Times Square (Nov. 18-Jan. 2).
- A few blocks up the road, the entire front facade of the Downtown Marriott is the centerpiece for City Lights (Nov. 18-Jan. 1). Featuring 30,000 bulbs and 16.7 million colors, the celebration signifies the return of The Salvation Army's Annual Christmas Campaign.
- The Zona Rosa shopping district dresses in its holiday best for Northern Lights (Nov. 20-mid-January). Ornate and colorful, several lighted crowns are suspended above the district's busy streets, harking back to a 1950s Christmas tradition.
- The Legends Outlets will keep shoppers in tune with A Legendary Light Show. Every 15 minutes, the sprawling shopping center springs to life with thousands of Christmas lights synchronized to concert-quality music (Nov. 20-Jan. 3).
- Thanksgiving night marks the return of Christmas in the Park, a festive drive through Longview Lake Park (Nov. 25-Dec. 31). The winter wonderland includes more than 300,000 lights and 200 animated figures. The event is free, but donations are accepted for charity.
- Looking to enjoy holiday lights without leaving the comfort of your car? Head to Christmas Card Lane, a drive-through adventure inside one of Kansas City's most festive neighborhoods (Nov. 26-Jan. 1). Featuring more than 200 decorated homes, the celebration earned its name by the larger-than-life greeting cards that line its streets.
