Holcim (US) Expert To Present At 2014 CONEXPO-CON/AGG Trade Show

BEDFORD, Mass., Feb. 26, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Holcim (US), Inc., one of the nation's leading manufacturers of cement and mineral components, will display and provide education resources at the 2014 CONEXPO-CON/AGG trade show. The event takes place in Las Vegas, Nevada on March 4-8, 2014.

Holcim's senior technical service engineer and Fellow of the American Concrete Institute, Tim Cost, will instruct for three education sessions at the trade show. Mr. Cost's first session, "Control and Prevention of Concrete Cracking" will take place 8:30-9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, March 4 and will cover construction methods and the critical influences on cracking of concrete flatwork relating to design, materials, environmental conditions and site preparation. Best management practices for dealing with each influence and specification of cracking protection measures will be discussed.

On Wednesday, March 5, from 1:00-2:30 p.m., Mr. Cost will be joined by Amy Miller, P.E., of the National Ready Mixed Concrete Association, to cover the "Design and Construction of Concrete Parking Areas." During this presentation, proper concrete thickness and jointing design, subgrade preparation, materials, testing, specifications and selection of methods and equipment will be covered. The session will cite examples of both successful and problematic projects to reinforce the principles of good design and construction.

Cost's session on Friday, March 7 will introduce an innovative new approach to concrete quality control and troubleshooting, "Performance Screening of Concrete Materials and Proportions Using Thermal Testing." This talk will cover how simple thermal testing of bench-top mixtures can be used to rapidly evaluate the performance influences of many different concrete materials and proportioning variables, without actual concrete batches. The session will take place from 10:00-11:30 a.m.

The CONEXPO-CON/AGG represents an immense unveiling of the newest equipment, technology and product breakthroughs in construction. The trade show includes education programs to emphasize industry issues, trends, management and applied technology.
