Hofstra University's Athletic Programs Continue Downward Spiral

ROSLYN, N.Y., April 12, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- The following is a statement from Brad Gerstman, Esq., Hofstra Alumnus and Former Football Player:

In recent days, Hofstra reported the resignation of embattled Athletic Director, Jack Hayes.  Interestingly, however not surprisingly, Hayes left Hofstra University for a much smaller athletic program at Brown University in an effort to revitalize his career.  Hayes served as Athletic Director for Hofstra during tumultuous times, including but not limited to, the termination of the Football program, basketball head coach employment debacle, and most recently, the resignation of the baseball coach.

It is undisputed that since that termination of the Hofstra Football program the entire athletic department has been on a downward spiral where program success has been diminished to their lowest points in many decades.  One recent example is when Hofstra Basketball coach, Tom Pecora, left Hofstra for lower ranked Fordham.  Now the Athletic Director who sheepishly followed orders of the administration and terminated Hofstra's historically successful Football program is jumping ship to find a way to resurrect his career.

"This is a guy (Jack Hayes) who cut the heart out of the University and thousands of alum," says James Scully, Esq., Former Hofstra Football Captain and Hofstra Athletic Hall of Fame Inductee. 

"I'm shocked at the behavior of the Hofstra Administration and the associates on the Board of Trustees.  Their function as it relates to the Hofstra athletic program and the student athletes has been disappointing and cries out for change," says Brad Gerstman, Esq., Hofstra Alumnus and Former Football Player. 

Additionally, Brad Gerstman states, "Successful athletic programs are the responsibility of a University's administration.  It adds to the quality of life for the student body and brings value and publicity to schools who are able to make these programs a success.  As Vince Lombardi once said, a school without football is in danger of deteriorating into a medieval study hall."

We're calling for the Board of Trustees, in addition to an independent party, to review the athletic department and reinstate the football program. 

Jack Hayes will take over as AD for Brown University effective July 1, 2012.
