HNBA Lauds Comprehensive Immigration Reform Framework as a Step in the Right Direction
WASHINGTON, March 22 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Late last week, Senator Charles E. Schumer (D-NY) and Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC) announced a framework that aims to fix our broken immigration system. The framework focuses on four pillars for comprehensive immigration reform: (1) fulfilling and strengthening the country's commitments on border security and interior enforcement; (2) implementing a tough, but fair path to legalization for those individuals who have worked hard to make the U.S. their home; (3) creating a process for admitting temporary workers; and (4) requiring biometric Social Security cards to hold employers accountable for legal hiring and employment practices.
Roman D. Hernandez, HNBA National President said, "The HNBA supports bipartisan efforts to enact reform legislation and we encourage members of Congress from both parties to find common ground. For our part, the HNBA and our membership remain committed to working with Members of Congress and the Administration to enact comprehensive immigration reform."
Over this past weekend, more than 200,000 people from across the country gathered on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. to demand comprehensive immigration reform during the 111th Congress. "The cross section of people in attendance – the faith-based communities, the business sector, students and youth, the labor community, the agricultural and high tech sectors, among others – illustrates the broad coalition of support for comprehensive reform," noted Hernandez.
The HNBA is an incorporated, not-for-profit, nonpartisan, national membership organization that represents the interests of the more than 100,000 Hispanic attorneys, judges, law professors, legal assistants, and law students in the United States, Puerto Rico and the U.S. territories.
