HNBA Commends President Obama's Nomination of William J. Martinez and Wifredo A. Ferrer
WASHINGTON, March 2 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Hispanic National Bar Association (HNBA) applauds President Barack H. Obama's decision to nominate William "Bill" Martinez for the U.S. District Court for the District of Colorado and Wifredo A. Ferrer for U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Florida. Both of these nominees have stellar qualifications as well as a proven record of public service. The HNBA urges the Senate to confirm these nominees expeditiously.
Roman D. Hernandez, the HNBA National President, stated, "Both Mr. Martinez and Mr. Ferrer are exemplary attorneys who have excelled in the legal profession throughout their careers. Their extensive legal experience has qualified and prepared them to serve with distinction."
Mr. Martinez has significant litigation experience which well suits him for service on the federal court. He has dedicated his legal career to litigation in both the private and public sectors. He started his legal career as a staff attorney with the Legal Assistance Foundation of Chicago and later worked with the law firm of Pendleton & Sabian P.C., where he began to specialize in the field of labor and employment law. Subsequently, he practiced with the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission before he started his solo law practice. After 4 years as a solo practitioner, he merged his practice and grew it with three other partners, forming McNamara, Roseman, Martinez & Kazmierski LLP. The law firm specializes in cases pertaining to employment, civil rights, and consumer fraud law.
Mr. Ferrer has extensive litigation experience that has prepared him to serve as a United States Attorney. In 1994, he served as a Special Assistant to the Secretary of Housing and Urban Development through the prestigious White House Fellowship. After completing the Fellowship, he served as deputy Chief of Staff and Counsel to the Attorney General at the U.S. Department of Justice. Later, Mr. Ferrer returned to Florida as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in the Southern District, working in the Public Integrity and National Security Section. For the last 4 years, he has been the Chief of the Federal Litigation Section of the Miami-Dade County Attorney's Office. He started his career as a judicial law clerk for the Honorable Stanley Marcus in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida and also served as a commercial litigator with the law firm of Steel Hector & Davis.
Hernandez concluded, "The HNBA knows that both Mr. Martinez and Mr. Ferrer will serve with distinction in their respective roles. They are examples of the high-caliber attorneys and practitioners that exist within the HNBA, and we are glad to have been able to lend our support to them."
