HNBA Commends Appointment of The Honorable Esther Salas as United States District Court Judge for the District of New Jersey
WASHINGTON, June 15, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Hispanic National Bar Association ("HNBA") commends the U.S. Senate for unanimously confirming The Honorable Esther Salas as United States District Court Judge for the District of New Jersey yesterday. She is the first Latina to serve in this capacity.
Judge Salas began serving the District of New Jersey as Federal Magistrate Judge in 2006 and has since published several opinions. Prior to her appointment as a magistrate, she was an Assistant Federal Public Defender for nine years. In that position she offered her support on the Hiring Committee and advocated for an increase in women and minority attorneys. Before joining the Office of the Federal Public Defender in Newark, New Jersey, Judge Salas worked as an associate for Garces and Grabler, P.C. where she primarily litigated criminal matters and was responsible for appellate work.
"Judge Salas has led a distinguished professional career and has been recognized for her impressive ability to manage heavy and complex dockets before her," said HNBA President, Diana Sen.
