HM Insurance Group Provides Workplace Safety Grants to Non-Profit Organizations
More than $170,000 Donated Through HM Workers' Compensation Safety Grants Since 2012
PITTSBURGH, Nov. 10, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- HM Insurance Group (HM) provided 13 Pennsylvania-based non-profit organizations with grants for equipment and facility enhancements that can help to improve workplace safety. The funding was made possible through the HM Workers' Compensation Safety Grant Program, which has donated more than $170,000 over the past four years to improving safety in its recipients' workplaces.
"HM works with clients to create a safety culture in their workplaces that can help to reduce the frequency and severity of Workers' Compensation claims," Matt Piroch, senior vice president, HM Workers' Compensation, said. "Helping to improve safety for these non-profit organizations enables them to not only reduce risk and potentially reduce costs, it also allows them to keep focused on their missions within the community."
Some of the improvements being addressed by this year's grants include the purchase of sit-to-stand lifts and other patient transfer devices, security cameras and training programs. Grant amounts range from $2,000 to $5,000 based on the specific improvement.
Among the HM Workers' Compensation safety grant recipients in Western Pennsylvania are: Alleghenies Unlimited Care Providers; Community Resources for Independence, Inc.; Pauline Auberle Foundation; Indiana Regional Medical Center; MHY Family Services; Arbutus Park Manor; and Avalon Springs Nursing Center.
Beneficiaries in Central Pennsylvania are: Messiah College; Bell Socialization Services, Inc.; Punxsutawney Area Hospital; and United Disabilities Services Foundation.
Those in Eastern Pennsylvania receiving a safety grant are: Helping Hands, Inc. and The Hill at Whitemarsh.
HM's safety grant program was introduced in 2012 as a corporate giving initiative of the company. Through the program, non-profit organizations with a documented safety risk that can be mitigated through equipment upgrades, training or other solutions may be awarded up to $5,000 for implementation.
