"Connect to Compete is a critical step in building a foundation of digital empowerment for lower income families on a national level," HITN President and CEO, Jose Luis Rodriguez, said. "We are honored and excited to contribute to the program's success. Our long history of serving the Latino community provides us with a unique understanding of the best practices for reaching and engaging the C2C target audience, and the program meshes perfectly with HITN's mission to educate and entertain."
Connect to Compete (C2C) is led by One Economy, a global non-profit with an 11-year history of connecting low-income individuals to broadband and digital literacy training. The ultimate goal of C2C is to use broadband to increase employment and improve education.
"We are extremely pleased to have HITN on board to assist in deploying C2C program initiatives," said David Saunier, One Economy President. "By fusing HITN's knowledge of the Latino community and One Economy's experience with digital education, we hope to make a positive impact by connecting this audience to the digital resources they need to be successful."
HITN will further C2C initiatives by spreading awareness of current offerings in the communities they serve, and by promoting the importance of digital literacy on their network, online and mobile platforms.
Connect to Compete currently has over 40 private-sector and non-profit partners to help increase digital literacy and broadband adoption across the U.S. The initiative was announced by the FCC in November, 2011.
