Hitler Signed "Mein Kampf" ... and His Underwear ... to Be Auctioned September 13-14
CHESAPEAKE CITY, Md., Sept. 7, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- A very rare signed copy of Nazi dictator Adolf Hitler's political manifesto "Mein Kampf" will be one of the highlights of the Sep. 13-14 auction of militaria by Maryland auctioneers Alexander Historical Auctions. Hitler inscribed the volume in German: "Only in battle will the noble man survive!" and dated it 1930. On the day he signed this book, Hitler also gave a speech promoting the Nazi Party for the upcoming election. In that election, the Nazis won 107 of the 577 seats in the Reichstag – a crucial step in their rise to power.
Auctioneer Bill Panagopulos commented: "In light of current events, the signed 'Mein Kampf' speaks to us as loudly today as it did at the time Hitler wrote it from his jail cell. Hopefully, this relic will serve as a vivid reminder of those terrible times – and as a warning."
In sharp contrast to the Hitler book, the auction is also offering two American flags of historic importance. One flag, tattered and soot-smudged, was flown by a landing ship which made 26 trips to the infamous "Omaha" landing beach in Normandy. The vessel's first trip, early on D-Day morning, brought ashore members of the 115th Infantry who proved crucial in the break-out from the beachhead. The second flag being offered flew before Navy Headquarters at Pearl Harbor during the surprise Japanese attack on December 7, 1941. The tattered relic was recovered at the devastated site and given to an engineer overseeing recovery efforts.
Other notable items in the sale include a number of Hitler's personal possessions, including a globe taken from Hitler's Bavarian home by an American G.I., a silver picture frame, and some of the Fuhrer's personal garments left behind in an Austrian hotel…including his dress shirt, socks…and his boxer shorts! Also included in the sale is feared SS leader Heinrich Himmler's post mortem report and eyeglasses, claimed by a South African doctor after Himmler's capture and suicide. The auction house will also offer plans of the battleship "Bismarck", a clock melted from the atomic bomb blast at Hiroshima, a helmet slapped from the head of a surrendering German general by an American soldier, and many hundreds of other relics, documents, uniforms, helmets, insignia, etc.
Bidding will be available live, by telephone, and at the bidding websites invaluable.com and liveauctioneers.com. The entire sale may be viewed online at the auctioneer's catalog link. Alexander Historical Auctions may be reached at 203-276-1570, email: [email protected].
