HITLAB® Announces 2016 HITLAB World Cup® Digital Health Start-up Finalists
- Five Contenders to Present Health Tech Solutions at HITLAB Innovators Summit® -
NEW YORK, Nov. 17, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- HITLAB®, a healthcare innovation and teaching lab based in New York City, has selected five finalists for its HITLAB World Cup®, an international competition that promotes original, digital solutions to crucial healthcare challenges. The contenders will present their inventions at the world-renowned HITLAB Innovators Summit®, November 29-December 1, 2016, in Columbia University's Lerner Hall.
Determined to transform healthcare access, delivery, and outcomes, 74 teams applied representing 13 countries: Australia, Cameroon, Chile, India, Jordan, Kenya, Nigeria, Pakistan, Uganda, Ukraine, United Kingdom, United States, and Uruguay. An expert panel scored entries in four areas: potential impact on health, degree of innovation, business sustainability, and market feasibility. With applications ranging from an app to empower cancer patients; to an e-pharmacy benefit management system for low-income, poor-resource areas of the world; to an AI-driven health monitor for chronic care management at scale, this year's competition demonstrated the remarkable breadth of ingenuity and business acumen emerging worldwide.
"HITLAB World Cup applicants never fail to inspire. It's energizing to see great minds at work on complex healthcare issues," said Nishita Rai, PhD, HITLAB's Executive Director. "Our 2016 finalists are exceptionally talented, and we're eager to see their valuable inventions at the HITLAB Innovators Summit, where attendees will benefit not only by the competition, but also by an impressive speaker roster of renowned experts and industry leaders."
