Historical Novelist Robert Fertig Suggests How Terrorist Attacks Could Have Been Prevented in New Book "Quicksand"
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla., Oct. 15, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Robert Thomas Fertig, a keen observer of national security threats and historical novelist, says in his latest novel, "Quicksand" (a sequel to the Gathering Storm in the Middle East), "The storm that was predicted in 2010 has now arrived." Fertig claims that the abuse of political power and greed is America's biggest weakness. "We must remember that the decline of the Roman Empire was caused by corruption from within."
"President Clinton could have nipped terrorism during its early stages, but failed to act, and then he covered up his failure by having his former National Security Advisor steal top-secret files from the National Archives in 2003. President Obama and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton repeated history by their failure to act during the current Middle East crisis, and later covered up their many blunders in Iraq, Syria, and in Benghazi, just weeks before the 2012 election," says Fertig.
Fertig writes novels that combine fact and fiction to drive his readers to understand the real threats facing this nation and the world. He says, "ISIS is modern-day barbarianism," and it is time to "call out this ideology of death. These barbarians are already at our gates, and they want to find a place to hide in the public square where they don't get condemned," he continued. "If Christians were killing tens-of-thousands in the name of God and the Bible, like these fanatical Muslims do, who seem stuck in the 7th century, we would be compelled to quickly respond."
On American and EU skepticism about government security and surveillance, author Fertig claims it is mostly misguided. "It's not the collection of raw data on people that is the key issue; it's the capability to see patterns in that 'haystack,' and produce intelligent information out of it. That intel is really vital to defeat our enemies." It is up to Congress to be aggressive on government malfeasance. "If there were more competent leaders with authority and guts, whistle-blowers would beat a path to Congress to report many more acts of corruption and malfeasance."
Quicksand is about Espionage, Passion and Love during the Middle East crisis, which also contains a chapter that foretells President Obama's ultimate legacy. The lesson of history is simple: one should not make bargains with the devil.
