Historic Pieces Encourage Active Bidding During Auctionata's First Jewelry Auction From New York
NEW YORK, Dec. 10, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Auctionata successfully completed its first Jewelry auction Tuesday evening, from 7 PM to 9:17 PM EST. The auction attracted a global audience of 236 registered bidders from 20 different countries, such as India, Taiwan, New Zealand, Switzerland, and Brazil. Bidders actively participated in the auction of fine gems from designers such as Tiffany & Co., Georg Jensen, Chanel, and Cartier. Auctioneer Amy Papola led the sale alongside Katherine Palmiter, Auctionata Jewelry Specialist, and Peter Shemonsky, co-curator of the auction and well-known jewelry expert often featured on television.
"Our inaugural jewelry auction featured a broad selection of items from various periods and price points that would happily be the star of anyone's holiday wish list," says Katherine Palmiter, Auctionata Jewelry Specialist and Head of Sale. "I have always enjoyed jewelry with colored stones and classical motifs, such as the Van Cleef & Arpels Alhambra necklace in this sale. I was glad to see that bidders also felt strongly about these finely made pieces."
"This auction was very representative of the fact that great pieces bring premium prices," added Peter Shemonsky. "The two highest selling lots told two very different stories - the Van Cleef & Arpels Alhambra necklace is highly recognizable whereas the Parure Tiger Claws set was a wild card. Discovering pieces that tell a complete story such as these are what make the auction world so exciting."
The lots attracting the most attention were:
